Raven Skull, carved from beef bone and mounted in an upcycled frame.
I generally use photos as reference material when I am creating design, but in this case I am lucky enough to have a real raven skull to use for my reference. I have a pretty good collection of skulls and bones that I have found or been gifted (those who know me, know!) but this is by far my favourite. I found it completely clean and white, under a power line in Yellowknife. I expect the poor raven suffered an unfortunate accident involving the wires. This is a good example of my design process. The reference, the sketch, the template and the bone. When the bone was cut and ready to carve, it looked to me like a stormtrooper. It didn’t as soon as I carved off the black lines.
