Right Whale.
I tend to carve a lot of humpback whales as they are the most charismatic of the large whales. However, the status of the North Atlantic Right Whale as one of the most endangered whales species makes them an important subject matter. Given that the Right whale is more “serious” than the humpback, I chose a grey paint for the driftwood – a grey close to the colour of right whales. The drift wood base is a piece of lobster trap. Ironic, as an estimated 85% of the current population of right whales has experienced an entanglement with fishing gear. 14” x 4” , the whale is 5” long.
