Description
With over 1100 miles of coast line and countless estuaries, rivers and streams, PEI offers a huge variety of freshwater and salt water fishing. Despite the range of options, when I think about fishing, I think of trout. PEI has both rainbow and brook trout, but brook trout, aka speckled trout are the most common. This carving based on brook trout. It reminds me of days spent fishing, as a teenager, with my best friend in my brother’s canoe. Though the antler has a big variation in colour, the two trout are carved from the same moose antler. They are mounted on an up-cycled canoe paddle, painted with thin washes of acrylic paint, to allow the grain to show through. The paddle is 60” long. The trout are each 8” long
I design and carve all of my jewelry and sculpture in my studio/ workshop located in Brackley Beach, Prince Edward Island.
I use antler that is naturally shed and regrown by the animal each year. Once carved, each piece is sanded and buffed to highly polished finish.
